How to control your breathing when you are training Taekwondo

Hello everyone! This week we’d like to talk to all our students about Breathing. We need to breath to live! However when we train in Martial Arts, we have to apply a different type of breathing method. So today we will learnHow to control your breathing when you are training Taekwondo. There are different muscle groups inside your body, and we train them separately at the gym or during our day. However in Martial Arts we train our whole body at once, both inside and outside. Therefore when we combine the power of your muscles when striking, with our loud ‘kihap’, it generate more power than a simple strike ever could.Changs Taekwondo BreathingKihap is translated as ‘Spirit Yell,’ and rightfully so! When we yell from our throat it can be impressive, however it can also be damaging to our voice. Therefore Martial Artists know it is from our lower Abdomin that we must yell. When you take a deep breath, you are using your diaphragm to pull the air down into your lower stomach, and you push it out the same way forcefully. We practice this while we do our meditating at Chang’s Taekwondo Martial Arts South Surrey, Cloverdale and Tsawwassen.Kihap is the sound of your internal energy. A machine can have power, and we as humans can have power too. The difference between a machine and a human being is that we are alive! We must use this advantage while breathing, a simple test could be when you are punching or kicking.. Breathe in! When you are lifting something.. Breathe in! You will find it definitely feels awkward.if you start to focus on breathing control while you do punching and kicking, you will start to feel more power soon. The more we practice this, the easier it is to do a good kihap when we need to!
