Weight is the best way to double your power
Hello everyone, we've been talking recently about various key points of Taekwondo. As we discussed in the previous blog, we should know that we are alive and a machine is not, however both are able to create power. Beside the breathing advantage of being a living creature, we have another advantage; weight. The easiest example of using your weight to increase power is when you punch down rather than punch up. Why? Because you are using your weight when you punch down. You can generate more power if you bend your knees when you punch as well.Weight is the best way to double your power. But how can we use your weight when you execute any other techniques? The basic concept is to use your hip and back muscles to support your kicking and punching. When you kick something you can generate more weight power when you kick off the ground; it transfers through your hip to your foot. When you punch something you generate your weight power from your hip to your back and from your shoulder to your fist. Sound hard? Yes, it is not easy to do this and this is why we are coming into class and training hard so we can use this skill. Next time you come to your class, please pay attention to this and ask our instructors how to generate more power using our weight. Weight is our bonus source of power and we should know how to use it properly! From now on we will be helping all our Chang's Taekwondo Martial Arts white rock, Cloverdale and Tsawwassen students train to use their weight in their classes.
