Word of the Month - May

Hello everyone! We have a new word of the month at all Chang’s Taekwondo Martial Arts locations in South Surrey, Cloverdale, Tsawwassen and Aldergrove. The new word is:TeamworkTogether, we get the job done.We have teams everywhere we go. We have a team at home; your family. We have a team at school; your class. We have a team at Taekwondo; your class. We have a team at work; your coworkers.Different people have different strengths. Some people are fast, some people are strong, some people are good leaders, etc. We need people with different strengths on our team to help accomplish more. Each team member has a role to play.. some people have good ideas, and some people are good at implementingideas. Some people work quickly, and other people work thoroughly.A good team may not always win, but a good team definitely has a great attitude, good sportsmanship and strong effort. Imagine a team that was lazy, or didn’t get excited when they were training or practicing. Imagine a team that got upset every time they lost, or want to quit anytime they don’t get their way. Imagine a team that doesn’t put in the effort. Do they deserve to win? No!Changs TaekwondoSome teams may not succeed because they argue, or they have a bad attitude, or ego gets in the way. When a team doesn’t work well together, they fail. Look at superhero movies; the super heroes try to do it by themselves out of a bad attitude and ego, only to fail. However, once reunited with the team, they save the day!A team needs a good leader. Good leaders always work the hardest, have the best attitude, share the credit, and allow others to excel as well. How do you know you have a good leader on your team? You are not always feeling in the shadow of the leader, they share the credit and never say it was ‘all them.’ Good leaders will also compliment you when you do a good job.Being part of a team is a vital part of our society. Everywhere you look you see teams. We need to know how to work in a group of people, whether it be a sports team, a classroom setting or a work environment. Working well with others is a life skill that will benefit you not only in your Martial Arts class, but for the rest of your life and in everything you do!**If you would like to earn extra stars:Tell your Instructor of a time when you were part of a good team.Tell your Instructor of a time when you were part of a bad team.Tell your Instructor what made the good team, and the bad team?
