Using your Taekwondo to help, rather than harm
Using your Taekwondo to help, rather than harmHello everyone! We’d like to remind all our students at Chang’s Taekwondo South Surrey, Cloverdale, Tsawwassen, and Aldergrove that Taekwondo Night tickets are still available, though they are selling fast! Taekwondo Night is our biggest annual event, with over 1000 people attending each year! It is sure to be a huge hit this year with our theme focusing on the Star Wars universe. On a different note, we would like to share with our students some tips and tricks for how to use Taekwondo like a jedi (good guy), rather than something more like the dark side. When students and friends are confronted with bullies, or intense peer situations we find students will have a fight or flight response. Both of which should merit more thought. For the student who would fight with the bully…1. Remember, those who fight with bullies often become the bully themselves.2. Two wrongs definitely do not make a right, in fact it can make the situation much worse.3. Using Taekwondo to hurt others will not only hurt your confidence but also the way you see yourself. For the student who would run from the bully, or accept it without argument:1. Until something is done about the situation, it will repeat itself forever.2. The bully may not even know what they are doing is hurting your feelings.3. This will hurt your self-esteem, and cause more problems later on.Therefore we would like to outline some good ideas of what to do when you feel bullied:1. Use your voice! Be loud, confident and assertive and tell them how it makes you feel.1. “STOP, I DON’T LIKE THAT”2. Stop Bullying in it’s tracks, the FIRST time.1. If you stop it the first time, odds are it won’t happen again.3. You have a great support network!1. Teacher, Parents, Instructors, Friends.. We’re all here to help you. We were all there once as well.So let’s use the confidence you gain from training Taekwondo, not the techniques themselves, do the combatting of Bullying. We know every students at Taekwondo can do it, and we are always here to help if you feel otherwise or need guidance.**If you complete these objectives you can earn extra stars!1. Talk to your Instructor about how you can stop bullying2. Talk to your Instructor about a time you were bullied (if it applies)3. Talk to your Instructor about a time you SAW someone get bullied, and what you could do.Your Instructors love to hear your thoughts! Come talk to us!**
