TRICK qualities for Parents and Students

Hello everyone we’ve successfully completed our second week of training on the mats! Our students from Chang’s Taekwondo Martial Arts in South Surrey, Cloverdale, Tsawwassen, and Mission have all trained hard in spite of the COVID-19 restrictions. We’re happy to have you training with us!In her book ‘How to Raise Successful Adults,’ Esther Wojcicki tells us there are 5 qualities to Instructing Martial Arts, Teaching students, and raising children which can definitely make us more effective in our roles as Leaders.⁃ Trust⁃ Respect⁃ Independence⁃ Collaboration⁃ KindnessTrustWe trust our children, students and instructors to make mistakes but ultimately make the right decision.RespectWe can talk and lecture all we like, but it is what we DO that will ultimately be remembered by our children, students and Instructors.IndependenceDon’t do anything for your children that they can do for themselves. Set a goal or a direction and as a leader or a parent, get out of the way!CollaborationWe can sometimes be demanding in our tone with our children or students, we expect respect without first giving it, or without talking with the other party. What better way to determine a consequence to an action than the talk about it beforehand.KindnessWe want our students and Instructors to be citizens of the world. We want to help develop a sense of empathy which will make the world a better place.By thinking about the TRICK values in each situation of raising a successful person or Taekwondo student.. we can do a much better job! Let’s make the next generation the best generation — because they will need our guidance.
