Owning your Actions - Changs Taekwondo
Hello everyone! We recently celebrated the 8th Anniversary of the opening of our Cloverdale Chang’s Taekwondo Martial Arts location! Happy Birthday! We’ll be sure to celebrate the 22nd Anniversary of our South Surrey location, the 3rd Anniversary of our Tsawwassen location and the 2nd Anniversary of our Aldergrove location this year!Ownership is very important. So many times we hear about home ownership, or car ownership.. But what about owning up to our feelings and actions? This is very important for a Martial Artist during their training. This is similar to taking responsibility for your actions, but ownership goes one step further. When we talk about owning a moment, or an experience.. We talk about going above and beyond what we would normally do. For example, our Instructors own every moment we can with our students. We bend over backwards for our younger students and accommodate their needs, and we try to enhance the lives of our students through taekwondo training at every level. For our students we ask for ownership of their actions. If we are tired, we should admit it to ourselves and take ownership of the situation.“I am tired because I watched too much Netflix last night, even though I’m tired I will still train hard.”“I am not feeling well, because I didn’t eat enough lunch. I will still train, and next time I will eat more before class.”When we are training, if we hurt our training partner we should definitely take responsibility and apologize right away. Then we need to take ownership of the situation and work very hard to avoid repeating the same mistake. If we are playing a game, and we are tagged out, we can be honest and then make the best of the situation. What is a Dojang (Taekwondo School) atmosphere like without ownership? It becomes a place of blame and finger pointing.“He moved the target! That’s why I hit him!”“He didn’t tag me!”“He stuck his tongue out so I….”“She didn’t listen so I…”When we take ownership, we are not only taking responsibility, but we are also promising to work as hard as we can every single day! This will help us to motivate ourselves and others during our training.“The pathway to your best life isn’t the route of denial. It’s owning every moment.” - Oprah WinfreyThroughout our training, we are growing. Some of us are younger and are growing both physically and mentally. We should always keep in mind that our Instructors love us and consider ourselves a valuable part of your life. If you have anything you need to talk about you can count on us to help out. You’ll find your Chang’s Taekwondo Martial Arts Instructors taking ownership of any situation you put them in, and that is how our Taekwondo family works!**If you would like to receive extra stars:Talk about a time you showed ownershipTell us what Ownership means, in your own words.
