How to come into the Taekwondo Dojang
Hello everyone! We have the end of the year coming up, which means January is going to be a busy month with new students signing up for the new year! We want to be sure all the basics are covered with you, our current students — so you can help us teach and remind our new friends basic lessons of respect, such as:
How do we enter the Taekwondo dojang?
When we first arrive at the Taekwondo dojang we have to bow in, this puts us into ‘Taekwondo Mode,’ it’s the only place in our world where we bow and shout “Tae Kwon!”
Once we’ve entered, we should remove our shoes and socks — place them neatly on the shoe rack! Placing our shoes away neatly is our first of many ‘little victories’ we have at Taekwondo. If we keep building from this first victory, it’s definitely going to form into a great Taekwondo experience.
Next we look for our Instructors, you know — the people who teach us Martial Arts! It’s proper Taekwondo etiquette to look for you instructor before anything else, so you can properly greet them before you settle in. Imagine you’re at your friends house, and you don’t say hi to them or their parents and simply go to their TV and sit down.. this would be incredibly rude!
Once you find the Instructors, if they are looking at you from across the room and acknowledge you greeting them then you’re finished! If the Instructors do not see or acknowledge you, it’s best to wait at the edge of the mats until they look your way, and acknowledge your greeting. This is show very good respect, which will help you in your life.
Next you greet your friends, and settle in for an awesome Taekwondo class. Remember to be quiet and respectful of the class that is currently training.
Have fun and see you all on the mats come Monday.
