Finishing Strong

Hello everyone! We have only a month and a half until the end of the year! Today we’d like to instil in all our students a sense of finishing strong. Chang’s Taekwondo Martial Arts in South Surrey, Cloverdale, Tsawwassen, Aldergrove, and Mission should finish strong in anything they do: School, Sports (Including Taekwondo!), and in any goals or missions they have for 2019.
How can we get ourselves to persevere, even at the end of the year?
Well look at the beginning of a race, everyone is full of energy and runs at a quick pace. However as the race reaches the final lap or nears the end, many racers will run out of steam. How can we prevent this? There are a couple of things we can do:
  • In Sports
    • Many coaches focus on the starting line, now we know we can also focus on finish line as well. Try to save a little bit in the tank for the end!
    • Sometimes all we need is to think about pushing hard at the end to summon some hidden stamina!
  • In Taekwondo sparring
    • For sparring matches, make the second or third round even more energetic than the first!
  • Basic sparring strategy is to test the opponent in the first round and use what you learned in the second.
  • In Taekwondo Classes
    • The last few minutes of every Chang’s Taekwondo Class include workouts, games, announcements, and meditation.
    • Focus on getting a new personal record with every exercise, and when it comes to meditation let’s sit straight and perfectly still.
    • The best analogy for meditating is this:
    • Our mind is like a cup of muddy water, it can be hard to see through and seem like a mess. But when we keep the glass (our body) perfectly still, the mud will settle at the bottom! Leaving the cup of water clear, like our mind after proper meditation.
We look forward to seeing you on the mats on Monday, let’s get ready to show your Instructors how you focus on pushing yourself at the beginning AND the end of the class!
