Hello everyone! Hopefully everyone was alright during the big storm that blew past us this week! We had an exciting weekend with the Master’s Cup Tournament being held at BCIT. We want to congratulate all our competitors on not only their performance at the tournament, but in each class leading up to it. It takes hard work and perseverance to get where our competitors are, and Instructor Andrew; Head Coach of the Chang’s Taekwondo Sparring Team, was very happy with the results. This week in classes we want our students from Chang’s Taekwondo Martial Arts in South Surrey, Cloverdale, Tsawwassen and Aldergrove to focus on behaving like a martial artist.Men in a row at aikido class, selective focus, canon 1Ds mark IIIThis might seem easy, but let us think about it for a moment. At home, what does it mean to behave properly? We listen to our loved ones, we clean up after ourselves, we are always gentle and kind, etc.How can we behave properly at Taekwondo? Let’s start by saying the biggest goal of Martial Arts isn’t to make everyone a fighting machine, or to make everyone have the best technique, or to be the fastest, or the strongest.. It is to behave like a Martial Artist. We have to know how to stand straight all the time, we have to know how to sit straight all the time, we have to know when is the right time to chat with our friends, or not.It also comes down to how we interact with our peers. If we fool around during a Martial Arts class, the odds are that we will either injure ourselves, our partner, or another student. Therefore when we are punching, kicking, rolling, jumping, performing self defence.. we must be aware of our body and our surroundings, and definitely focus and be very serious.**To earn your extra star:Tell your Instructor how you can show good focusTell your Instructor how you can show good behaviourChallenge your Instructor to watch how you show good focus for a whole class
