Chang's Taekwondo Weekly Blog - Sportsmanship
Hello everyone! We want to say a big congratulations to those who participated in the Chong’s Invitational sparring competition on Saturday. We are very proud of you! This week, regarding sparring and sports in general, we are focusing on:
Sportsmanship: Showing good respect when both winning and losing.
“It is your response to winning and losing that makes you a winner or a loser.”
– Harry Sheehy
It’s never good to get angry about losing, losing is an amazing opportunity! Losing means you have been shown you need to improve, which may be just what you need to push yourself further. We all tend to get comfortable with our skills at the current level, and sometimes we need a rude awakening to help us realize we can always keep improving.
Winning is also a good indicator, only, one that shows you that you must continue to train as hard as you have been in order to continue winning.
In any case, no matter win or lose.. Make sure you smile, shake the opponents hand and thank them for the opportunity to train with them. This will make you a better Taekwondo Martial Artist, and a better person in general. This is our goal for all our students at Chang’s Taekwondo Martial Arts South Surrey and Cloverdale locations.
